UK Calls in Iranian Envoy Over Embassy Social Media Post

(MENAFN) The United Kingdom has summoned Iran’s ambassador to London following what officials described as “unacceptable and inflammatory” activity linked to the Iranian Embassy on social media, marking a further escalation in diplomatic tensions between the two countries.

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office said the action was taken after Minister for the Middle East Hamish Falconer formally called in the Iranian envoy in response to recent online posts attributed to the embassy.

According to officials, the ambassador was informed that the communications were “completely unacceptable,” with a warning that the embassy must avoid messaging that could be interpreted as encouraging violence either in the UK or abroad.

The diplomatic step comes after a Telegram message linked to Iranian officials circulated online, containing language urging participation in a national campaign framed around duty and sacrifice. The post called on supporters to engage in what it described as a collective effort tied to national honor and resistance.

The message stated: “All brave and distinguished children of Iran are invited to participate consciously and register in this campaign, adding another golden page to the book of honors of this ancient land and demonstrating that their hearts are bound to the dignity and greatness of their homeland. Let us all, one and all, give our lives in battle. Rather than surrender our country to the enemy.”

British officials said the content of the message prompted serious concern and contributed directly to the decision to summon the ambassador.
