Trump Warns UK Against Giving Up Diego Garcia
"Should Iran decide not to make a deal, it may be necessary for the United States to use Diego Garcia, and the Airfield located in Fairford, in order to eradicate a potential attack by a highly unstable and dangerous regime," Trump stated on his social media platform Truth Social.
The president indicated that any such attack could target the UK as well as other "friendly countries."
Trump also criticized UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer for signing a lease agreement, arguing that leases are unsuitable for nations and describing the move as a “big mistake.”
"Prime Minister Starmer should not lose control, for any reason, of Diego Garcia, by entering a tenuous, at best, 100 Year Lease," Trump wrote.
He further claimed that Britain is ceding control of the strategically positioned Indian Ocean island due to “claims of entities never known of before,” which he described as fictitious. "This land should not be taken away from the U.K. and, if it is allowed to be, it will be a blight on our Great Ally."
Trump concluded by asserting that the US will always be ready to defend Britain, but emphasized that the UK must remain resilient "in the face of wokeism, and other problems put before them."
