Andrew Rosindell resigns from Conservatives, joins Reform UK

(MENAFN) Andrew Rosindell has quit the Conservative Party and joined Reform UK, citing the Tories’ unwillingness to take responsibility for past mistakes. The former shadow minister and MP for Romford said the party is "irreparably bound to the mistakes of previous governments" and fails to accept "meaningful accountability" for poor decisions.

He revealed that he spoke with Nigel Farage on Sunday evening before deciding to switch parties. Farage welcomed him, calling Rosindell "a great patriot" who "will be a great addition to our team."

A Conservative source described Rosindell’s departure as an example of Farage conducting Badenoch's "spring cleaning," adding that Reform was "welcome" to him.

Rosindell’s move follows that of Robert Jenrick, who joined Reform UK on Thursday shortly after being sacked from the shadow cabinet by Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch, who accused him of plotting a defection.

The 59-year-old, who served as shadow minister for foreign affairs, said in a statement on X that "the views and concerns of constituents such as mine in Romford have been consistently ignored for far too long." He added, "Our country has endured a generation of managed decline. Radical action is now required to reverse the damaging decisions of the past and to forge a new course for Britain."

With Rosindell’s defection, Reform UK now has seven MPs and is the third sitting Conservative MP to join the party, following Danny Kruger and Robert Jenrick. These recent defections place Reform UK as the joint fifth largest party in the House of Commons, alongside Sinn Fein, which does not send its MPs to Westminster, and two MPs behind the fourth largest party, the SNP.

Around 20 former Conservative MPs have switched allegiance to Reform UK, including former Chancellor Nadhim Zahawi, who joined last week.
